“You implied it to everyone who would listen.” Train carefully monitored the range of emotions flickering in her hazel eyes. “I have never been dishonest with a woman. Ever. I like to keep everything on the up and up. That way, no one gets hurt. Unfortunately, I hurt you, which was not my intention. I really like spending time with you when you drop that attitude you carry around.”
“What’s wrong WITH my fucking attitude?” she snarled.
Masking his own emotions from her caustic words, he still sought to soothe her hurt feelings. “When a man is attracted to a sexy woman, he doesn’t appreciate being nearly run down by a car or nearly shot by one of her friends.”
Killyama’s voice dropped to a seductive murmur. “Would you prefer me to bend over and kiss your ass?”
“That’s not what I’m saying. You’re twisting my words again.” Train tried to cool himself down, getting fed up with her attitude toward him.
The afternoon they had spent in the back seat of her car was good, but if that was going to be the first and last they had been destined for, then he was just going to have to suck it up and come to terms with it.
“You have mad skills protecting those around you, you’re loyal as hell to your friends, and having sex with you nearly blew my mind. So much so that I got ahead of myself and was trying to see if you would be willing to consider becoming a Last Rider. I have had some sexual relationships in the past where the women resented my involvement with The Last Riders. I have no intention of leaving the club ever, or entering a serious relationship. I like you, and I think we can have some good times together, but I want to be up front so we can avoid more of the misunderstandings going on between us.”
Her eyes were narrowed on him the whole time he talked. It was the longest time she had let him speak without interrupting him since he had met her. When she did speak, it was only to say, “I need a drink.” She stood up, leaving him to go to the bar.
Train stared down at the table, running over the spiel he had just given her. Maybe he should have taken a different tack. However, he didn’t want any lies to come back to haunt him.
The image of her the day he had gone to Winter’s aunt’s house was burned into his memory. Killyama and her friends had been skinny-dipping in the pool. He hadn’t been able to take his eyes off her. Even T.A., who had breasts that would make any man drool, hadn’t been able to draw his gaze beyond a cursory look. He had to have her again.
He hid his shock when she sat back down in the chair in front of him, chugging her beer before she sat it down on the table.
“So, because some bitches couldn’t take you fucking around on them, you decided it was easier to only fuck bitches who are Last Riders?”
“Yes.” He would rather come out as a jerk now than when their hookup was over.
“I’m not going to join The Last Riders. I’m going to nip that in the bud right now. You’re not the only one who has a club they’re loyal to. Seems like we’re at a stalemate. Later.” Killyama pushed back her chair and started to rise.
“Wait.”
He was used to women trying to get him to give in to their demands, and Killyama was plainly saying she wouldn’t regret it if she never fucked him again. Unfortunately, he couldn’t say the same, and he knew that if she left the table, he would never have her again.
She paused, tilting her head to the side. Train racked his brain, trying to come up with another way to have her one more time. Or two.
“Dude, I’m not giving up the Destructors any more than you would give up The Last Riders. You might have been a good fuck, but it wasn’t that good.”
Her haughty sniff had him wanting to pin her against the wall beside them and remind her just how good it had been.
He pushed his own chair back. He’d had enough. Train never lost his cool with a woman, but he was damn close to losing it with her.
Killyama stuck one long leg out to keep him from walking away. “Chill.”
Train sank back down onto his chair as she took her time to finish her beer.
“Maybe we need to give a little to get a little.”
“What in the hell does that mean?” Train asked in confusion.
“We could hook up occasionally when we want a little something-something. No strings attached. You’ll have to give up the rule of not banging a woman who doesn’t belong to The Last Riders.”
“What will you have to give up?” he asked suspiciously.
“That you’ll be doing other women.”
“That won’t work for me.”
“Why not?”
Train rolled his eyes. “You’ve been giving me shit ever since we were together, and you think you won’t pull out a gun if you think I’ve been with another woman? And there will be other women.”
She shrugged. “Who says you would be the only man in my life?”
“You’re seeing someone?” His jaw clenched. “Is it serious?”
“If it were, would I be thinking of doing you?”
“Men get killed when they think their woman is cheating.”
“Women do, too. Looks like we’ll both have to take our chances that we’ll be open and honest, not only with each other, but others, too. I don’t do relationships, so I don’t have a problem telling them they aren’t the only one keeping my tits warm.”
He bet she didn’t.
Train nodded. “I can do that.” He wanted her badly enough that he was going to take the chance. He drowned out the voice at the back of his mind that told him he was the one to fall for his own spiel.
“I can, too.”
Train started to get up again. “Let’s go.”
“Whoa. Slow down, sailor. We need to settle the ground rules.”
“Rules?” Train’s brow furrowed. He knew it was too good to be true. Killyama never did anything easy.
“Rules. You shouldn’t have a problem with that. The Last Riders are big on rules, remember?”
“Tell me what they are, and I’ll decide.” He wasn’t about to let his dick and Killyama talk him into anything else that he would regret later.
“Protection. You use it with everyone.”
“That’s a given.”
“Even if they are giving you a blowjob,” she clarified.
“Have you lost your mind? I’m not putting a condom over my dick when a woman gives me a blowjob.” Shaking his head vehemently, he made himself stop when she gave him an unblinking stare.
“Then don’t expect me to go down on you without one.”
Train gritted his teeth. “It’s not like I would go to you right after being with another woman—”
“I’m giving you a choice. Either you can get all your blowjobs from other women, or my mouth is the only one that’s going to be sucking you off.” She shoved aside the bowl of nuts he had been nibbling on to push the nearly empty bowl of pretzels she had been eating toward him.
Train stood up without a word, going to the bar. “Give me a whiskey.”
“You never drink whiskey,” Mick commented, reaching for the bottle.
“Give me a double.” Train took out his wallet, paying for his drink before going back to the table where Killyama was leaning back in her chair, legs crossed at her ankles.
